Elisabeth Gschiel is a qualified architect and worked several years in architecture, before she start working on her sewn artworks. Contrary to its original purpose of combining textiles, the artist seeks to use the sewing machine as a kind of “pencil” and experiments with the creative possibilities of this tool. She uses different materials like plastic, paper, canvas, leather and as well old photographs. In her artistic work she is focusing on current topics of economy, environment, nature and heritage especially in her portrait works.

She lives and works in Graz.
